Super Laser Racer is a fun little game I discovered years ago. It’s a top-down racer with clean, simple vector graphics and a deep simulation of speed and momentum. There are also a fair number of tracks, and the cars handle in meaningfully different ways. It’s a great way to while away 20 minutes at a time, and presents some genuine challenge.
Why I like it –
- It’s a bare-bones racing game, where momentum really matters.
- The simple vector-graphics don’t distract me with annoying or implausible backstory. Instead, it contextualizes the somewhat unreal physics and handling.
- There are weapons and powerups, but they are not overwhelming. Good driving easily beats lucky powerups.
- The techno soundtrack is pretty fun.
